STATISTICS BOOK SUB AND APPLIED MATHA comprehensive introduction to the fundamental mathematical concepts and is available for free download on GMBResource.
Statistics is that branch of mathematics which is concerned with the collection, organization,
interpretation, presentation, and analysis of numerical data. To a statistician, any information
collected is called data.
Statistics is therefore a set of concepts, rules, and procedures that help us to:
organize numerical information in the form of tables, graphs, and charts;
understand statistical techniques underlying decisions that affect our lives and well-being; and
make informed decisions basing on information generated from processed data.
Statistics plays a vital role in every field of human activity. For example it has an important role in
determining the existing position of per capita income, unemployment, population growth rate,
housing etc...in a country.
Statistics is a vital tool in fields like industry, commerce, trade, Physics, Chemistry, Economics,
Mathematics, Biology, Botany, Psychology, and Astronomy.
Statistical methods are used in research to collect, analyze, and formulate research findings in every
field at higher institutions of learning.
Raw data: This is the data which is not organized numerically. Thus when data has not been
ordered in any specific way after collection, it is called raw data.
